The Mississippi Department of Transportation is seeking $59,299,200 to replace four bridge structures in three counties (Stone, Perry, and Harrison) in rural south Mississippi.
The outdated bridges will be replaced with new structures that feature 12-foot-wide lanes and wider shoulders, along with prestressed concrete and post-tensioned Florida beam bridges of similar design. The new bridges will meet current design standards and provide several notable improvements over the existing structures. The new designs will reduce debris accumulation in the channels and provide greater resilience to scour and certain hydraulic events. These improvements will increase the structures’ overall lifespans, limit maintenance costs, and increase the structural integrity of the bridges. If funded, the four bridges will be let under a single construction contract, allowing the awarded bidder to efficiently mobilize resources and work crews to minimize delays and cost increases.
